Each week Michael Stein-Ross contributes Sustain, a column about community & sustainability in Burien.

For this week’s column I wanted to share the thoughts of a local couple who I very much admire. Bill Opfermann and Rebecca Dare are not the type of sustainability and community activists who would be formally recognized by the city for their leadership, nor are they the type of people who would seek such recognition. While some people know who they are, many many more have been affected by their work without knowing it. They are Sustainable Burien board members and keep an incredibly busy schedule, so it was a real treat to be able to sit in their dining room for a comfortable chat. The Burien City Council held an eventful and well attended public meeting yesterday at the Burien City Hall where many major community issues were discussed, including, but not limited to, the annexation of White Center in the next 60 days. (more…)
If you have a dog or a cat and live in Burien, you have until the end of this month to renew or purchase your pet license from the city.
According to the City of Burien, all dog and cat owners in Burien will need to purchase or renew their pet license by June 30. This includes residents who currently have pet licenses with King County. (more…)

The City of Burien will be holding a Vision for Burien Open House on June 13, from 5:30pm to 7pm at the Burien City Hall located above the Burien Library in Town Square but this meeting will be in the first floor meeting room. (more…)

An argument in a Burien bar between two men starting around 12:20am Wednesday morning left one man stabbed and another man shot in the face in the parking lot next door. (more…)
