Safety Not Guaranteed, an independent film partially shot in Burien’s own Grocery Outlet and Highline Highschool, is now in theaters in the greater Seattle area.
Last May we reported that Safety Not Guaranteed, starring Aubrey Plaza from NBC’s Parks and Recreation and Mark Duplass from The League, was in the process of filming in Burien. The main character, Kenneth, played by Mark Duplass , is employed at a grocery store, set in Burien’s Grocery Outlet.
The plot, according to the movie’s official website, is as follows:
When an unusual classified ad inspires three cynical Seattle magazine employees to look for the story behind it, they discover a mysterious eccentric named Kenneth, a likable but paranoid supermarket clerk, who believes he’s solved the riddle of time travel and intends to depart again soon.
Together, they embark on a hilarious, smart, and unexpectedly heartfelt journey that reveals how far believing can take you.
This film won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. It is playing in theaters in Seattle, Bellevue, Lynnwood, and Federal Way. Look for Grocery Outlet about 40 seconds into the movie’s trailer below.
