King County Boundary Review Board Expected to Make Decision on North Highline Annexation Tonight

The King County Boundary Review Board is expected to make a preliminary ruling on the City of Burien’s request to pursue the annexation of North Highline at their meeting this evening.

The Board will be meeting at 7pm in Cascade Middle School. This meeting comes after a two day hearing last month that was attended by both people who support and oppose the annexation.

If the King County Boundary Review Board approves the City of Burien’s request, the annexation may go up for a vote to the citizens of North Highline later this year.

The City of Burien posted this statement on the City’s website to cliffy what would happen if the KCBRB does approve the request for annexation:

“Approval by the Board would clear the way for Burien to set an election of residents in the annexation area. However, the City is waiting for the Legislature to approve a state budget later this spring. The City is counting on a current state tax credit that helps cities provide services to newly annexed areas. Burien officials have indicated the annexation will not proceed without the tax credit, which could be eliminated from the state budget.”
