It may come as a surprise to many readers that today, April 22, 2012, is Burien Daily’s first birthday. Just one year ago today Burien Daily launched with a url and Facebook account but no fulltime staff, no photographers, no Google ranking, and no readers.
The vision for Burien Daily was to create a community website that promoted community, supported local and independent business, and helped people become informed and connected to the news, events, and daily life in Burien. Originally the plan was to launch the website as “Burien Life” but with the url unavailable, Burien Daily, became the name because the vision, as previously stated, is to promote daily life in Burien. In April of 2011 Buriendaily.com officially launched and since then, there have been plenty of ups and downs as well as busy and slow times. Without doing any kind conventional advertising, the existence of Burien Daily has relied primarily on word of mouth and readers sharing Burien Daily links on sites like Facebook and Twitter. Last week was our third Burien Eats event. This time we met at Sidestreet Kitchen and Bar on SW 148th St and 8th Ave SW and the restaurant was completely packed most of the night. We have heard nothing but positive review after positive review of Sidestreet from our readers. If you didn’t have the chance to check it out, Sidestreet has a great menu as well as a great happy hour menu so make sure to head over there and support a great and delicious local business. For September’s Burien Eats, we need your help!
So far, Burien Eats’ attendees have had the opportunity to visit Pho La Vang, El Sabor de Oaxaca, and Sidestreet Kitchen and Bar. Now we want to know what Burien restuarants our readers think should be the next Burien Eats’ locations. If you know of a restaurant you believe should be featured as a Burien Eats’ stop, you can leave a comment below, or email ‘burieneats@buriendaily.com’.
To be selected for Burien Eats, a local restaurant needs to be:
• In Burien
• Local and independent
• Able to seat at least 20 people at one time
• A restaurant that many people in Burien have not visited
• Delicious
So send in your favorite local and independent Burien eateries!
On August 4th Burien Daily invites everyone in this community to attend dinner at Sidestreet Kitchen and Bar for the August Burien Eats. Burien Eats is an event we put on the first Thursday of every month; inviting people to set aside some time out of their month to support local business and slow down and enjoy people in this community. There isn’t any DJ or special discounts, the event is just a chance for you to become a little bit closer to people and this community. (more…)

We want to send out a ‘thank you’ to everyone who came out to support El Sabor de Oaxaca last Thursday for Burien Eats. The owners of the restaurant wanted us to share what a blessing it was for so many people to show up and support local business.
The employees of El Sabor de Oaxaca did a great job making sure everyone was taken care of and got to try some authentic Oaxaca food. Over 30 people came out for this month’s Burien Eats and many, many more sent in ideas and suggestions about what to do for August’s Burien Eats and how to improve on the first two.
We are still working on the details for August, but it will be on August 4th without fail and we hope to post more details about it later this week. If you have thoughts or ideas about Burien Eats, please send them to ‘tips@buriendaily.com’.
Thanks again to everyone who is supporting community and local and independent business in Burien!
